The nanoparticles made of gold are being used since agents by numerous people from various backgrounds. The reason for its increasing demand is lively colours of it that when they are interacted in light. In recent times, the optical features of these particles are carefully researched on and hence they are used in high tech purposes.

Some of the arenas where these are used are sensory probes, drug delivery, catalysis, photovoltaics, electronic conductors, and therapeutic agents. The electronic properties of these Au nano particles can be tuned as well through altering the surface chemistry, size, aggregation state and shape.

The Au nanoparticles have the ability to scatter and absorb light having great effectiveness. It has an interaction power with light, which happens due to conduction of electrons, resulting in oscillation at various wavelengths. The process is also called as SPR or Surface Plasmon Resonance which absorbs the gold nano particles. The properties can be controlled by the space, refractive index and size.

Electronic and optical properties of gold nano particles

The interaction of the gold particles with light can be known by size, physical measurements, and environment. The oscillating fields surrounding the nanoparticles of gold bond with the free running electrons. The resulting oscillations are termed surface plasmons. The resonance of the particles can cause light absorption in green and blue spectrum part, reflects red light resulting in a dark red color. When the size of the particle expands, then the wavelength will become longer and darker as well.

When the red color is absorbed then it reflects blue light, and results in purple or blue color. And the size at last increases until it reaches the limit. The surface resonance then can be changed as per the shape and size of particle, then left to determine where the nano size gold particle can be used.

Practical uses of gold nano particles

The main reason of high demand of the gold particles is because of the brilliant optical, electronic, and molecular properties it posses. These properties improve the performances of various applications when used in fields like nano technology, microscopy, material science, electronics and lots more. Some of the other areas where the Au properties are used widely are:

1. They are used in wide range of sensors. It helps in detection of pollutants, molecules as well as proteins.

2. They are also used in resistors, electronic chips, conductors, and in many other electronic components and devices.

3. They are used as catalysts in many important chemical reactions. It even helps in developing fuel based applications.

4. Also used in detection of the biomarkers when treating cancers, infections, and heart issues. They are used in detecting pregnancy as well.

Now that you have gained quite useful information about these gold nanoparticles, you should be attentive when you are picking up the dealer or manufacturer of these compounds. The increase in competition has led to increase in number of sellers, most of the new ones among which are not 100% genuine. Hence, being careful is the trick to play.
